Median Home Prices in Ontario and British Columbia

Fascinating property size trends in Ontario and British Columbia:

🏠 Detached: Sizes have continuously increased since 1960 (except for BC after 2015).

🏢 Apartment: Sizes have decreased since the 1990s.

Rowhouses/semi-detached:

  • Firstly, there are limited options available in the market.
  • Secondly, their sizes are also continuously increasing, surpassing 1500 square feet.

What is the problem?

There is a limited availability of affordable options for small families (e.g., 3 people) due to the scarcity of large apartments or small detached properties, especially in the range of 800 square feet to 1500 square feet.

What is the solution?

To ease zoning regulations and permit for diverse housing options (e.g. mid-rises) in our large cities.

Housing options should not be restricted to small condos and large detached homes, specially for families with one child!
