  • What is the Temporary 10% Wage Subsidy?
    • This program is seperate from the 75% Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy. It spans 3 months (March 18th - June 19th) , where employers are able to reduce the employee payroll deductions that are submitted as remittance to the CRA.
  • How much is the subsidy?
    • 10% of your eligible employees' gross wages over 3 months, with a maximum of $1375 per employee and an overall subsidy maximum of $25,000 per employer.
  • How do I apply and how will I receive the subsidy?
    • You do not apply. Continue deducting appropriate taxes from payroll as you normally would. When it comes time to submit your business's taxes to the CRA, this is when the subsidy is applied. Manually calculate your 10% subsidy for each employee and subtract the value from the total deductions made for that individual employee. The final total is what you remit to the CRA. See the example below.
  • Example
    • John is paid $4100 gross monthly income from his employer. The subsidy for Jon over the 3 month period will be $1230 [(4100 x 3) x 10%]. His employer deducts $7500 in yearly income tax. So in total, Jon's employer will remit $7500 - $1230 = $6270 to the CRA.
  • IMPORTANT - The wage subsidy does not apply to EI and CPP premiums
